The DS1302 is an integrated circuit that provides real-time clock (RTC) functionality. It keeps track of time in seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years, and automatically adjusts for months with fewer than 31 days, including leap years. In addition, it includes 31 bytes of SRAM for small data storage. The DS1302 communicates with microcontrollers via a simple 3-wire serial interface and is widely used in battery-backed clock and calendar applications due to its low power consumption.
