Gravity: I2C Non-contact IR Temperature Sensor Compatible with Arduino

Temperature measurement can be divided into two types: contact and non-contact. Contact measurement can accurately measure the temperature only when the test object and the sensor reach thermal equilibrium. This can mean longer response times and reading inaccuracies offset by the ambient temperature. In contrast, non-contact measurement uses infrared radiation to measure temperature and does not require a direct touch. Additionally, this measurement method provides fast and accurate readings. In recent years, non-contact measurement methods have been increasingly used in medical, environmental monitoring, home automation, automotive electronics, aerospace, and military applications.

Our newest infrared temperature measurement module is the MLX90614. This module measures surface temperature by detecting infrared radiation energy and wavelength distribution. The IR temperature probe consists of an optical system, a photoelectric detector, an amplifier, a signal processing unit, and an output module. The optical system collects infrared radiation within its field of view, and the infrared radiation energy is converted into corresponding electrical signals as it converges on the photoelectric detector. After being processed by the amplifier and signal processing circuit, the signal is converted into a temperature value. The MLX90614 is self-calibrating and features a low-noise amplifier integrated into the signal processing chip. The chip itself is a 17-bit ADC and DSP device, delivering accurate and reliable results.

Note: The SEN0206 (MLX90614-BCC), due to its wide field of view (FOV = 35°), is more suitable for commercial applications. For industrial applications requiring a longer distance range, we recommend the SEN0263 (MLX90614-DCI).
